In Assam, people use the small bowls to eat dal; in Orissa, bowls are still given as gifts at weddings. In Nepal, pregnant women are supposed to eat from the bowls because of the added metals. Also in Nepal, the bowls are used for a kind of sound therapy in which harmonious and disharmonious sounds are used. In Japan and China, singing bowls are used for ritual purposes in the Buddhist temples and Zen monasteries there.
